10 Charitable Organizations That Accept Cryptocurrency Donations
As the use for digital currencies continues to gain traction among retail merchant outlets, the charity sector has not been left behind. Nowadays, a significant number of nonprofits accept donations made in cryptocurrency.

Obviously, this means of payment is favored due to its transparency, speed and reliability.

In recent times, charities have had to endure reduced donations, mainly due to lesser trust that people have in such organizations. This has led to the collapse of several humanitarian causes. The survivors are forced to seek alternative methods of reestablishing the trust between them and donors. One such method is the embracing of digital currency donations. As mentioned above, the advantages of the underlying blockchain technology are the main reasons behind the growing popularity of cryptocurrency donations.

The following 10 nonprofits accept virtual currency donations.

BitGive Foundation

The BitGive foundation is not a typical charity as it does not have a specific cause. Instead, it provides a platform that accepts BTC donations which are later distributed to cause-specific charities. BitGive operates out of California.

The donations are tracked through a blockchain-driven platform called GiveTrack. It is accessible to all involved parties, meaning that donors can see how their funds are being used. This increases the accountability of BitGive.

BitGive was established five years ago by Connie Gallippi. So far, the platform has partnered with renowned humanitarian organizations, including The Water Project and Save the Children.

Free Ross

Free Ross is a movement that is advocating for the release of Ross Ulbricht, the man behind the infamous Silk Road platform. As of now, Ross is in prison for crimes he committed through his dark web platform, the Silk Road. When he created the website, Ross emphasized on privacy and anonymity of transactions.

Shortly after its creation, Silk Road had gained massive popularity. This is because everything was available for sale – and transactions were free of charge. Goods and services were only purchasable using Bitcoin.

In 2015, Ulbricht was sentenced for life without the possibility of parole. However, the conviction was marred with criticism over the apparent inconsistencies in the investigation process as well as the subsequent evidence.

Using Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht played a key role in the adoption of Bitcoin as a means of payment. A donation to the Free Ross initiative should, therefore, be considered as gratitude to Ulbricht for his contribution.

Notably, Snowden for both the CIA and the NSA. There, he learnt of many programs that trespassed the privacy rights and nations in the name of acquiring intelligence. His revelations were a confirmation of the allegations that such agencies are illegally collecting private data without the owner’s consent.

The actions taken by Snowden drew mixed reactions, with some lauding his bravery while others labeled him as a traitor. Currently, Snowden is residing in Russia, where he sought asylum after being charged with treason five years ago. The donations made to his defense fund are used to pay his lawyers who are fighting to have the treason charges dropped.

To access the Internet Archive, users have to use the Wayback Machine. This powerful tool enables users to browse through billions of web pages, as well as download useful resources.
