Indeed using poloniex is easier.
But one will not simply learn the function of signing wallet by depositing to Poloniex

Of course not. You can't receive any Lumens.

Nope. Because the lumens will you recieve  is based on how much btc you have in your wallet. I forgot the formula of computation. ?

But as recommended by Fahrul it would be easier if you just deposit it to Bittrex or Poloniex

I followed your instructions to create a Coinbase verification signature. What are the next steps to get Stellar to accept my Coinbase BTC address to participate in their giveaway?

I'm not getting this. On June 26th, the date of the last Lumens distribution I had approximately 4.12 bitcoins in my Coinbase account. About a month ago I moved the BTCs so I could participate in the Bitcoin cash distribution. First of all, I checked all the addresses associated with my BTC wallet on the Blockchain and none had any BTCs at that time. When I follow your tutorial and get to the details page, there is no link for "You can sign a message with this address". Even if there were, I don't think it would work with any of my addresses. I don't understand why it would have worked for you but not for me. Can you shed any light on it?

I believe this Option no longer exist, in other word.. coinbase has remove it. idk just my guess.

Thanks for your comment. I thought I was just too much of a newbie to figure it out. It appears I lost out on around $85 of free money but the BTCs have been moved off Coinbase so I'll be ready for the next freebee.
